What Is Trenchless Pipe Repair?

What Is Trenchless Pipe Repair?

It’s not always easy to tell that you have a leaking or burst pipe underground on your property. Once you realize that you have this type of problem, getting quick, professional repairs is essential. In many situations, trenchless repair services offer the ideal solution.

What’s Involved in Trenchless Plumbing Repairs?

Traditional underground pipe repair requires excavating the ground to allow plumbers to reach the affected pipes. This often leads to disruptions and the destruction of landscaping. Trenchless pipe repair offers a better solution. Technicians use a variety of modern techniques to repair an underground pipe without going through an invasive or destructive process.

Structural Pipe Lining

This process involves inserting a liner into a damaged pipe. The liner has an epoxy coating that forms a strong sleeve once it cures. The lining restores the integrity of the pipe’s structure and ensures proper flow.

Pipe Bursting

Adding a pipe lining won’t always provide lasting results. When it’s necessary to replace the pipe, the technicians will use a bursting head to destroy the damaged pipe. A new, high-density polyethylene pipe (HDPE) gets pushed into the space as a replacement.

Slip Lining

The technicians push a smaller replacement pipe into the damaged pipe. They will fill the space between the two pipes with grout to stabilize the structure.

Spray Lining/Brush Coating

Technicians will coat the interior of the damaged pipe, using a flexible polymer or epoxy. This hardens and forms a barrier that seals the damage.

The Benefits of Trenchless Pipe Repair

There are many situations in which trenchless repairs are preferable. Here’s a look at some reasons to consider this option:

  • Save money since a costly excavation process isn’t necessary
  • Have repairs completed as quickly as possible
  • Avoid harming landscaping, plant life, and wildlife in the area
  • Avoid disrupting urban traffic near commercial properties
  • Repair plumbing near industrial facilities without interrupting normal operations

Every situation is different. An evaluation of your plumbing damage can help you determine whether trenchless repairs offer a good option for your property.
